OUR PHILOSOPHY
At MTD, our philosophy is rooted in a commitment to integrity in our business practices, openness with our employees, and a commitment to providing exceptional Service, Quality, and competitive Pricing to our customers. Our history reflects a dedication to building lasting partnerships with clients based on a shared vision for success.
Founded in 1972 by Andy Pantano, MTD started as a one-man tool & die shop. As the business grew, MTD expanded into metal stamping. Over the years we have added assembly, robotic and automated welding, powder coating, and project management to our services. As a family-owned business, MTD values its employees and celebrates their contributions and achievements through regular company events.
MTD Metro Tool & Die was founded in 1972, operating out of a small facility with a primary focus on tool & die. With a commitment to precision and craftsmanship, the company laid the foundation for its future by delivering high-quality dies to support the growing manufacturing needs of its clients. This humble start marked the beginning of MTD’s journey toward becoming a leader in the industry.
MTD Metro Tool & Die expanded its operations by adding stamping to its tool & die services. This significant development enabled the company to handle more comprehensive manufacturing needs, integrating high-quality stamping processes into its offerings. By broadening its capabilities, MTD strengthened its ability to meet diverse client requirements.
MTD proudly partnered with Xerox as the company’s first Certified Canadian Supplier, marking a pivotal moment in our history. This partnership has been a driving force behind our growth, helping us expand our capabilities and deliver exceptional manufacturing solutions, strengthening our position in the industry.
In 1990, MTD Metro Tool & Die expanded its operations to a larger facility at 1065 Pantera Drive, significantly boosting our production capacity. This move enabled us to introduce new equipment and capabilities, positioning our organization to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
In response to a customer's need for finishing solutions, MTD introduced a dedicated powder coating line. This addition has significantly enhanced our manufacturing capabilities, providing a durable, high-quality finish that improves the appearance and performance of metal components, with superior corrosion resistance. This makes it ideal for industries such as automotive, construction, and consumer goods. Through greater control of the manufacturing process, we are able to provide shorter lead times and higher quality.
MTD achieved ISO certification, solidifying our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency in all aspects of our operations. This certification reflects our dedication to continuous improvement, ensuring that every product we manufacture meets rigorous international quality standards and reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in the industry.
One of the major turning points in MTD's history was acquiring our 800-ton press, which allowed us to establish ourselves as a player in the North American automotive industry. This press enables us to handle large-scale, high-volume metal stamping projects, supporting major production programs with precision and efficiency. It also strengthened our capacity to meet growing customer demands while maintaining the high quality MTD is known for.
MTD provides mass production welding services thanks to our flexible weld cells, which significantly streamline the manufacturing process. These advanced weld systems enable a quick changeover process providing streamlined scheduling and efficient production. With the flexibility to adapt to dynamic production demand, our streamlined process delivers quality products when they are needed.
MTD’s acquisition and expansion of our second facility on Pantera Drive has significantly broadened the scope of our service offerings. Building 2 enables a streamlined flow of products through each manufacturing step, resulting in enhanced efficiency and quality and a substantial increase in our overall production capacity.
MTD has integrated an advanced vision system powered by AI to enhance our quality control processes. This cutting-edge technology ensures that every part meets strict specifications by detecting imperfections, enabling defect-free production. As we continue to innovate, MTD remains committed to continuous improvement, striving to provide our clients with the most advanced and reliable solutions for the future.
